On Saturday, May 26, 2018, Brett and I were married at the Casitas Estate in Arroyo Grande, CA. Over a year after our original wedding date and two years after our engagement, we finally made it to this special day. I never, ever, in my wildest dreams would have thought that I’d be diagnosed with cancer, let alone right before I was to be married. I must say, in hindsight, I am happy with the journey I’ve been on. Having overcome such a random challenge with Brett by my side gives me indescribable joy and gratitude.
Looking back, the road to the wedding day was not perfect. As my treatment and surgery got farther behind me and the wedding drew closer, there were still curveballs. It’s funny what cancer will do to you though because no matter the curveball, I was ready. I was determined to keep my eye on what matters. We were determined. We had ideas of how things were going to go, who would be present at our wedding, what we were going to wear … and as curveballs presented themselves, we kept going. We did our best to stay true to who we are and what we want.
As we go forward, we want to say thank you to everyone who has supported us along our journey towards health and happiness. Here are some pictures from our special day, and I hope they serve as a reminder to anyone out there going through a difficult time – you can persevere. I was once sick, hairless, bloated, and weak.
Now I am none of those things. I am renewed. I am transformed. I am more than I ever imagined. I am strong. I am grateful. I am happy. I am healthy.
I am Estee Fratzke, and I am ready for whatever life will bring me next.
